Family of 5 here (2 adults, 3 children) + 2 dogs and a gerbil. After my husband was made redundant twice last year we had to really cut back. At first I found it difficult but now I’m in the swing of it.

We average £60-80 per week for the main shop. I do meal plan and I use ASDA click and collect for the bulk of it so I only order what I need and don’t have to step foot in the shop to collect (that’s when my budget gets blown lol). I find lots of the smart price range is really good, things like pasta, tinned tomatoes, cereals, chocolate spread are all a lot cheaper and just as good as branded. Then I go to Aldi or Lidl for fresh fruit and veg (although again some I’ve switched to frozen fruit and veg from ASDA).

On top of that I use Amazon subscribe and save for some of the high cost items, including dog food, coffee, cleaning products, dishwasher tablets. The more items you have on subscription the more you save. Some of the products are delivered monthly, some are Bi monthly, some 3 monthly depending on pack sizes and usage, you can set this yourself. On average it’s £40-£50 a month through Amazon.
